Monique Laville (née Saccomanni) is a self-taught professional painter, born in Marseille on February 2, 1950. From a very young age, she received support from her father, who financed her classical dance and piano lessons. Although she did not pursue formal artistic training, she began sketching in black pencil, charcoal, and pastel. Later, she was inspired by photographs and the great masters of Impressionism, ultimately opting for oil painting on canvas. Style and Technique She employs a unique technique: all her oil paintings are done with a single, small knife, which gives them a very personal painterly touch. Her paintings, predominantly Impressionist, revisit real landscapes in their own unique way. Furthermore, many of her works include a small figure dressed in blue, inspired by her father, a mechanic by trade, as a tribute. Motivation and Message His art conveys nostalgia for the past, criticizing the loss of traditions, values, and trades (such as fishing, grape harvesting, and lavender harvesting) due to modernity. He denounces the environmental and humanistic impact of the productivist society since 1900, encapsulated within an Impressionist language full of commitment and social message. An Italian art critic, Alfredo Barbagallo, praised his work, stating: "Your painting reflects great inner richness," highlighting the emotional force present in his work. Career and Recognition He has exhibited since 1984, both in France and internationally, participating in solo and group exhibitions in countries such as the US, Canada, Brazil, Austria, the United Kingdom, China, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. He is a member of prestigious institutions such as the Academies of Rome, Quebec, the European Academy of Arts, and the Euro-Mediterranean Academy of Arts in Taormina (Sicily). Recognized by the AICOA of Barcelona and awarded the title of Academic Official. She has participated in auctions (priced by Artprice, estimated at approximately €227 per point) and has been appraised by expert Elodie Couturier (Paris and Miami). She served on the jury for a painting competition in Bologna, in addition to receiving diplomas, trophies, medals, and various awards. She has been mentioned in numerous press articles, catalogs, encyclopedias, and magazines, and has given several television interviews. She holds the i-CAC (Certified Artist Quotation Index) certification and has organized charity events. Some of her recent achievements include: La Palma d’Oro Trophy for Visual Arts (Monaco, 2022), Palma d’Oro Award (San Remo, 2022), participation in the 5th Biennale of the Art Museum in Venice (2022), as well as in the Art Show Paris II (2019) and the Culture Identity Award (La Spezia, Italy, 2019).
